Moon Dance (Vampire for Hire #1)Moon Dance by J.R. Rain

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

“I was folding laundry in the dark and watching Judge Judy rip this guy a new asshole when the doorbell rang.” (Page 1, chapter 1 first line) When I read this I was instantly pulled into this story and character Samantha Moon. I came across Moon Dance Vampire for Hire Book 1 as a freebie on Amazon and thought why not, sounds interesting enough. Usually not my normal choice of paranormal story, it sounded, to be honest a little cheesy, a former federal agent who is married, has children and drives a mini-van? I am happy to admit, that my first impression was incredibly wrong. The first person narrative really took you inside Samantha Moon’s character, from the things she thought to the things she did, she was pretty believable. A lot of times I was like heck yeah, this is exactly what I would say. I laughed, I cried, I hated her husband (don’t want to spoil it, but you will see what I mean) and felt empathy for her. I had not read anything before from the author, J.R. Rain and so my real surprise came when I discovered that the author is a male. I assumed from the beginning that the author had to be a female, how intuitive of emotions of the character and her life and the pain, the anger she feels from having her life changed so abruptly from being a normal soccer mother, sister and wife to the “abnormality” she becomes. How sexist of me, to assume this, I definitely will not let it happen again. When I finished the book, I was not eager to let Samantha go yet, I prayed there would be more. Yes!! To my delight there are 5 books so far in the series. I need to get reading!!
